International Fisheries Experts Gathered in Guangzhou to Seek the Sustainable Development of China-ASEAN Fisheries

On 14th to 16th November 2019, INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CHINA-ASEAN FISHERIES SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT was grandly held in Guangzhou, China. The symposium was organized by Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangdong, Key Laboratory of Tropical and Subtropical Aquatic Resources Utilization and Aquaculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Key Laboratory of Leisure Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, co-organized by Guangzhou Nutriera Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

Around 100 experts and fisheries department heads from different countries have attended this symposium, including Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangdong, Guangdong Fisheries Society, Shanghai Ocean University, Huazhong Agriculture University, South China Normal University, South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, as well as Natural Resources and Environment of Louang Namtha Province, Laos, Myanmar Fisheries Federation, Burapha University, Thailand, Nong Lam University-Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Hong Duc University, Vietnam and Universiti Sains Malaysia. Mr. Dong Qiufen, the Director of International Business from Nutriera led a team to attend and make a keynote presentation.

Vice President Mr. Liu Yingjie from Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Associate Counsel Mr. Chen Wen from Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangdong and Director-general Mr. Xu Ruiyong from Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS delivered a speech accordingly for the opening ceremony.

The symposium based on the theme of “Strengthening scientific and technological innovation and cooperation to promote the sustainable development of fisheries”.  Vice President Mr. Liu Yingjie from Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS) pointed out that fisheries is an ancient as well as a new industry. The development of China’s fisheries has encountered many problems, thus it became very necessary to adhere the concept of green and sustainable development. However, the green and sustainable development cannot be achieved without the support of national policies, the innovation of science and technology and the assessment of markets. He wished that China and ASEAN fisheries could build a long-term communication mechanism and platform to develop green fisheries. Director of Burapha University, Thailand Mr. Bunlung Nuangsaeng, Deputy Director-general of Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS Mr. Zhu Xinping, Director of Natural Resources and Environment of Louang Namtha Province, Laos Mr. Somvang Nabounpheng and Senior Vice President Ms. Toe Nandar Tin from Myanmar Fisheries Federation made wonderful presentations accordingly.

As the outstanding enterprise representative of complementing the “Belt and Road”, Guangzhou Nutriera Biotechnology Co., Ltd shared the years of overseas experience and the judgement for the market and industry. Director of Nutriera International Business Mr. Dong Qiufen made a keynote report entitled "Aquafeed development strategies in China-ASEAN". He explained that there is huge potential for developing aquaculture and aquafeed in ASEAN countries. By combining with years of practices from Nutriera team, he proposed the development strategies of aquafeed for China-ASEAN. Namely strengthening international exchanges and cooperation, grasping the development trend, improving the technology of seedling breeding & feeds and developing feeds that meet with the new breeding mode. In addition, Mr. Dong Qiufen put forward 16 pertinent suggestions on the aspects of new concept, new technology, seedling, feed, breeding, processing and trade flows, which were highly concerned and fully recognized by the participants.  

Professor Le Thanh Hung from Nong Lam University-Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Professor Luo Jianren, Professor Wang Guangjun, Professor Xie Jun and Professor Li Ningqiu from Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, Professor Liu Qigen and Professor Liu Liping from Shanghai Ocean University, Professor Zhang Jiasong from South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, Professor Liang Xufang from Huazhong Agricultural University, Professor Lin Li from Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering, Professor Zhao Jun from South China Normal University shared specific presentations separately.

After the symposium, the participants from ASEAN countries actively interacted with Nutriera team members. Experts of Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos made a special trip to visit Nutriera. The guests were deeply impressed by the professionalism and thoughtful working details of Nutriera. They also gave positive suggestions on the international and professional development of next stage for Nutriera.

As one of the earliest Chinese aquaculture enterprises that has entered overseas countries and worked depth in overseas markets, Nutriera has made positive contribution to promote the fisheries exchanges between China and ASEAN countries.
